Our Mission

La Sala is an LGBTQ youth drop-in center for homeless/unstably housed 14-24 year-olds where they can find a safe community space to shower, get clothes, get dressed, and attend to their appearance. This program also provides holistic support and opportunities

for youths to participate in educational and recreational activities.  This space consists of a dedicated “glam room,” health and wellness activities, vocational opportunities, and counseling. 

Increased awareness about sexual identity, HIV testing, safe space, food distribution, clothing distribution, healthy sexuality information, resource referrals and a safe space for participants to use their individual artistic expression to promote engagement and healing.

What are the Drop-In hours are:

Thursday through Saturday from 11:00 am – 7:00 pm.  

  • No, but we have cots for folks to take naps on during the day.

No.  We only provide healthy snacks.

  • No smoking in the space.
  • Speaking kindly to one another
  • Zero tolerance for homophobia and heterosexism
  • No drugs on person or drug use 
  • No weapons including pepper spray, knives, guns, etc.
  • Respecting authority
  • Cleaning up after yourself, and 
  • Participating in the programming and services. 
  •  Although we do not provide jobs, we offer referrals to job training and GED programs through NMIC and Queens Connect.

A potential participant will contact our care coordinator to set up a time to do an intake.  Then, once the intake is complete and the individual qualifies for La Sala (e.g. meets age requirements, identifies as LGBTQ, etc.), they will be able to access programming, services like the showers and laundry, as well as hangout during drop-in hours.  We will follow up with folks every 90 days to see if they are still coming, going to programming and utilizing the services.  If they are not or have severe behavioral issues, discharge may be necessary.
